Rui Teixeira was born on October 11, 1972. He holds a degree in naval and marine engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa, and an MBA from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
From 1996 to 1997, Teixeira was Assistant to the Director of the Naval Commercial Department of the Gellweiler–Sociedade de Equipamentos Marítimos e Industriales. Between 1997 and 2001, he worked as Project Manager and Surveyor for Det Norske Veritas, with responsibilities in offshore structures, shipbuilding and ship repair. Following this, he was a consultant at McKinsey & Company from 2001 until 2004, where he focused on the areas of energy, shipping and retail banking.
He joined the EDP Group in 2004, where he led the Corporate Planning and Control Department until 2007. In this year, he also took on the position of Chief Financial Officer at EDP Renewables Europe and EDP Renováveis. From 2008 to 2015, he was the Financial Director and member of the Board of Directors of EDP Renováveis as well as the Executive Committee. On April 21, 2015, he was elected to serve as a member of EDP’s Executive Board.
Teixeira is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDP Gestión de Producción de Energía and, since April 2018, has been Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Managing Director of EDP Spain and member of the Executive Committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the EDP Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of various subsidiaries of the EDP Group. He is also currently CEO of EDP Renováveis.
